چکیده

Pursuant to Article 1 of the Convention signed in Paris on 14th December 1960, and which came into force on 30th September 1961, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) shall promote policies designed: − to achieve the highest sustainable economic growth and employment and a rising standard of living in Member countries, while maintaining financial stability, and thus to contribute to the development of the world economy; − to contribute to sound economic expansion in Member as well as non-member countries in the process of economic development; and − to contribute to the expansion of world trade on a multilateral, non-discriminatory basis in accordance with international obligations. The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) was established on 1st February 1958 under the name of the OEEC European Nuclear Energy Agency. It received its present designation on 20th April 1972, when Japan became its first non-European full Member. NEA membership today consists of 27 OECD The mission of the NEA is: − to assist its Member countries in maintaining and further developing, through international cooperation , the scientific, technological and legal bases required for a safe, environmentally friendly and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, as well as − to provide authoritative assessments and to forge common understandings on key issues, as input to government decisions on nuclear energy policy and to broader OECD policy analyses in areas such as energy and sustainable development. Specific areas of competence of the NEA include safety and regulation of nuclear activities, radioactive waste management, radiological protection, nuclear science, economic and technical analyses of the nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear law and liability, and public information. The NEA Data Bank provides nuclear data and computer program services for participating countries. In these and related tasks, the NEA works in close collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, with which it has a Cooperation Agreement, as well as with other international organisations in the nuclear field. Permission to reproduce a portion of this work for non-commercial purposes or classroom use should be obtained through the Centre français d'exploitation du droit de copie The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was established in 1957. Its statutory objective is to seek to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity throughout the world. One of the IAEA's functions is " to establish or adopt, in consultation and, where appropriate, in …

Yucca Mountain 2008 Performance Assessment: Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis for Physical Processes

The Total System Performance Assessment (TSPA) for the proposed high level radioactive waste repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada, uses a sampling-based approach to uncertainty and sensitivity analysis. Specifically, Latin hypercube sampling is used to generate a mapping between epistemically uncertain analysis inputs and analysis outcomes of interest. This results in distributions that charact...

U and sr isotopes in ground water and calcite, yucca mountain, nevada: evidence against upwelling water.

Hydrogenic calcite and opaline silica deposits in fault zones at Yucca Mountain, Nevada, have created considerable public and scientific controversy because of the possible development of a high-level nuclear waste repository at this location. Strontium and uranium isotopic compositions of hydrogenic materials were used to test whether the veins could have formed by upwelling of deep-seated wat...

YUCCA MOUNTAIN: Earth-Science Issues at a Geologic Repository for High-Level Nuclear Waste

■ Abstract The nation has over 40,000 metric tonnes (MT) of nuclear waste destined for disposal in a geologic repository at Yucca Mountain. In this review, we highlight some of the important geoscience issues associated with the project and place them in the context of the process by which a final decision on Yucca Mountain will be made. The issues include understanding how water could infiltra...

Analysis of Vertical Velocities from BARGEN Continuous GPS Data at Yucca Mountain, Southern Nevada

We present vertical velocity results for the continuous GPS network located in the region of Yucca Mountain, southern Nevada. Based on local and regional tectonics, we hypothesize that vertical velocities at Yucca Mountain are likely to be very small. Data from the network, from May 1999 to January 2003, was processed using the GIPSY-OASIS II software, with ambiguities resolved on a line-by-lin...
